| It’s hard to figure out what message Puneet Sira’s movie Kisaan attempts to give. Does it want to say that those who leave the villages to study in cities turn out to be heartless, ambitious, career-driven individuals with low morals? Or does it want to convey the wrath of the farmers who puts aside their ploughs and take up the swords and daggers to fight for what’s right? Is it a family saga or a social commentary or both rolled into one? So many questions left unanswered in this multistarrer featuring Sohail Khan,Arbaaz Khan, Jackie Shroff, Dia Mirza, Nauheed Cyrusi and Dalip Tahil. Set in Punjab, the movie tells the tale of a farmer Dayal Singh (Jackie Shroff) who has two sons. He sends one son to the city to study law, while the other remains in the village with him. Jigar (Sohail Khan) grows up in his father’s shadow and learns to treat the land he ploughs as his dharti maa. Aman (Arbaaz Khan) becomes a lawyer and returns to his village and family with his beautiful girlfriend (Dia Mirza). Differences crop up between Aman and his rural family when a greedy and opportunist businessman Sohan Seth (Dalip Tahil) comes to the village and begins luring farmers to sell him land for his commercial interest. While Dayal Singh opposes the idea of selling the land and his farmer son sides with him, the lawyer son is enticed by Sohan with the promises of good pay, promotion and perks. What follows is a blood bath as the two warring parties take on each other. The body count keeps increasing until Sohan is the last baddie standing. No prizes for guessing who will bump him off. |
