I don’t feel like coming to US again: Shahrukh told fans

My Name Is Khan may just be the title of his next movie, but in an uncanny irony it was Shahrukh Khan’s name that led to his detention at the Newark International Airport on Saturday in New York where he had gone for India’s Independence Day celebrations.

After an alleged two-hour long ordeal that ended when the Indian consulate vouched for the actor, SRK did not even have a change of clothes because his baggage had not arrived yet. So he came to the South Asian Carnival at luxury Trump Taj Mahal hotel in Atlantic City in tattered jeans, white T-shirt, brownish coat and a muffler.

Apologizing to his fans for being late, he spoke of his ordeal: “I was treated shabbily just because I happened to have Khan as my last name.”

SRK also told the large number of Indian-Americans that he did not feel like stepping on American soil any more, but it was the love and affection of millions of his fans in the U.S. which would bring him to this country again and again.

“It was very unprofessional of the airport security staff of not allowing me to use my cell phone to contact my local organisers,” he told the audience, adding that he’s never been treated like this anywhere during his travels throughout the world.

Meanwhile, US officials said what Khan went through was a routine security procedure and he was questioned not for two hours but for just a little more than an hour.
